How to reduce the impact of Unconscious Bias in your organisation
October 16, 2019 8:30 am
Our personal backgrounds, experiences, and environment influence our decisions and behaviour on a daily basis, without us even realising it. This may seem inconsequential for some but everyday behaviour has a big impact on the people around us, especially minority groups. The workplace is no exception. Your employees pick up on all the nuances, stereotypes, and prejudices held and displayed in daily interactions. These can build up, create feelings of social exclusion, lead to poor performance, contribute to mental health problems, and eventually result in their exit. However, there are ways to combat this.
On 16th October, Rob Barkworth, Managing Psychologist and D&I specialist at Pearn Kandola, will discuss his recent work in the area of recruitment, promotion, research funding, and succession planning. This will uncover the practical steps you can take to reduce the impact of unconscious bias in your organisation. There is no silver bullet to deal with bias. Rob will talk about his work evaluating decision making processes in live environments and the targeted interventions he used to improve decision-making.
