There is no doubt that we’ve come a long way since the days when 60% of employed black women worked as domestic servants, or since 44% of white people said they would relocate if a black family moved in next-door. However, Brexit has been linked to a sharp increase in prejudice and a rise in racial discrimination and intolerance. Not only that, there are more and more examples of organisations being accused of unconscious bias or even more obvious acts of racist behaviour.
This seminar will look at how the Brexit campaign was at risk of emotionally biased judgements. Our views were formed by those around us experts, friends and family, and the community at large. Emotion and bias were an inevitable part of decision making process – indeed, being biased is part of being human.
