Inclusivity is rapidly becoming a top priority for businesses in the UK. Every business leader must take the time to listen to their employees’ experiences and reflect on their own observations: Have I encountered instances of racism or bias within my workplace? What steps can I take to foster greater diversity and inclusion within my team?
Engaging with these subjects can be challenging, and for some, it may evoke discomfort. This discomfort arises from the misconception that they should possess all the answers and the fear of using inappropriate language or approaching individuals outside their immediate network.
This self-consciousness hinders many leaders from embracing true inclusivity. It prevents them from delving into complex conversations and taking proactive measures, all because they fear making mistakes. As a result, they remain inactive and tend to surround themselves with people they perceive as similar to themselves.
