With the the deadline now passed for the first mandatory gender pay gap reporting since the coronavirus pandemic, the latest data suggests no progress on achieving parity of median pay for men and women. This year’s figure of 10.4% – the difference in pay for middle-ranking male and female employees – matches that of companies reporting in 2019-20.
The latest benchmark data comes as research shows many women in work are feeling increasingly burned out and are more likely to be working in sectors hardest hit by successive lockdowns, like hospitality, retail and tourism. Women who are mothers were also 1.5 times more likely to have been furloughed, quit or made redundant than men.
