Tennis superstar Naomi Osaka has declared her withdrawal from the French Open, following a fine imposed for her decision not to engage with the press during the tournament. The four-time grand slam champion cited struggles with mental health, specifically anxiety and depression, as her reasons for abstaining from media interviews and eventually withdrawing.
“I would never trivialize mental health or use the term lightly,” wrote Naomi. She goes on to say how she’s not a natural public speaker, with huge waves of anxiety before speaking to the world’s media.
