Active Bystander Training with NHS England and Improvement

January 10th, 2023

Discover how we initiated allyship behaviours with NHS England and Improvement.

Pearn Kandola developed and delivered an Active Bystander programme for colleagues within NHS England and Improvement between April 2022 – October 2022.

Challenge

The key objectives of our Active Bystander programme were to help participants understand the importance of inclusion, and equip them with the knowledge and tools to be able to be an effective active bystander.

Solution

In total, we facilitated 20 workshops which lasted 2.5 hours each, and up to 20 participants attended each workshop.

We also wanted to provide participants with insight into their own inclusivity, and we did this by offering them feedback using our digital solution PK:INDYNAMICS TEAMS prior to attending an Active Bystander workshop. This was facilitated by a Pearn Kandola business psychologist specialising in diversity and inclusion.

Impact

Our workshops were able to deliver new insights around the factors that contribute to inclusion, enhancing participants understanding of the difference between inclusive and exclusive behaviour and the importance of being an active bystander
