Gender Pay Gap in the UK: No Changes

As the deadline for the first mandatory gender pay gap reporting post-COVID-19 has passed, the most recent data paints a concerning picture of no advancement toward achieving pay equality between men and women.

The 10.4% disparity in median pay between middle-ranking male and female employees reported this year mirrors the figures from companies reporting in 2019-20.

Research indicates that many working women are experiencing heightened burnout and are more likely to be employed in sectors severely impacted by successive lockdowns, such as hospitality, retail, and tourism. Additionally, women who are mothers were found to be 1.5 times more likely to have been furloughed, resigned, or faced redundancy compared to men.
