Revealing HR Failures on Race: Employees Refusing to Share the Lift with a Colleague of Colour

In a discrimination case, an accountant has achieved a favourable verdict, as a judge concluded that several co-workers declined to share an elevator with her due to her racial background.

As detailed in the employment tribunal, Cheryl Spragg, held the lift door open but was subject to “intentional disregard” by four colleagues. During the incident, it was alleged that they even exchanged expressions and one of them made an inappropriate “whipping noise,” according to the legal proceedings
