Active Bystander Training for Leaders in a Top 50 Global Law Firm

  • July 25, 2024

Challenge

Before working with us, our client, a top 50 global law firm, faced challenges in ensuring that company behaviour across the organisation aligned with their values.

They needed to address changes to regulations, particularly in providing psychological safety and calling out inappropriate behaviour. Dealing with these issues in the moment, while meeting regulatory requirements, posed a significant challenge.

Solution

Building upon an existing long-standing relationship, we provided a solution through our Active Bystander training programme – delivered for many of the firm’s Partners.

The training was tailored to fit the firm’s needs, grounded in theoretical background and evidence. The content and skills provided were delivered in an engaging and interesting manner, avoiding the perception of being ‘just another mandatory learning exercise’. The training sessions, conducted in person with active engagement from Partners, avoided role plays and instead used real-life scenarios in real-time, using professional actors, to drive the message home.

The client valued the content, delivery approach, and the flexibility in tailoring the training to their specific needs. They appreciated the upfront conversations and the responsive and adaptive nature, in real-time, of the in person training.

Impact

The impact of our solution was profound – it offered a different and engaging approach that exceeded previous training experiences.

Participants appreciated not having to navigate these situations on their own and found the simple models easy to remember and apply. The training effectively normalised the occurrence of difficult scenarios and empowered participants to address issues proactively, resulting in a positive and lasting impact.

“The majority of participants would recommend this to other employees. They enjoyed the training despite finding the real-life scenarios hard-hitting. However, it did spark a light-bulb moment – that these sorts of things were happening in our organisation. They went away knowing, as leaders, what they had to do and how to do it.

Pearn Kandola are specialists in their area, and it is definitely worth taking the time and money to have the initial design conversations – that’s where the value is.”
