Tackling High Attrition Rates With A DEI Audit At A Media and Technology Company

  • March 25, 2024

Challenge

Pearn Kandola was enlisted by a media and technology company to carry out a comprehensive diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) audit.

The main challenge for the organisation was a high attrition rate of women in senior positions and minority groups in middle management positions.

Despite investing considerable resources into recruiting a highly diverse employee base, the company struggled to retain these valued staff members. Our task was to investigate and help the organisation understand why members of these demographics were leaving.

Solution

To address this complex issue, our team of experts chose to leverage the combined power of quantitative and qualitative research as part of our audit.

We first employed quantitative methods to identify and evaluate the areas worth examining more comprehensively. From here, we proceeded with a vast program of qualitative research, incorporating over 75 interviews.

This in-depth data collection phase allowed our psychologists to deep-dive into the core issues behind the company’s attrition rates and deliver insights that could offer the organisation actionable solutions.

Impact

Our thorough audit led to a significant breakthrough, with top management re-engaging their support for 2024 DEI plans. There was clear recognition that the company needed to do more to retain employees from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and genders.

Upon gaining clear insights from our research, the senior executives proactively began engaging with the emerging themes and developing a new DEI strategy.

The result was a focused and targeted approach to addressing the high attrition rates that had troubled the organisation, to ensure the investments and resources put into attracting and hiring diverse talent would not go to waste.

Pearn Kandola were proud to be entrusted by the organisation and its employees to sensitively carry out our DEI audit and get to the root causes of the high attrition rates, to support their ongoing efforts to recruit and retain diverse talent.
