Elon Musk’s car company to pay £2.6m for workplace racial abuse

A US jury has ruled that Tesla, led by Elon Musk, must compensate a former black lift operator with $3.2 million (£2.6 million).

Owen Diaz was subjected to racial slurs and harassment during his employment from 2015 to 2016 at the San Francisco plant.

This case highlights the global issue of workplace racism, as research indicates that despite increased conversations, employees still feel uncomfortable discussing race at work.

In 2021, the average comfort level remained low at 59/100, showing minimal change since 2018.
