The gender pay gap persists with little improvement, and companies arguably bear the most responsibility for addressing it. Nonetheless, women can contribute to changing this culture by advocating for equal pay increases. A recent survey of 9,000 employees by recruitment consultancy Robert Walters found that more than half of women have never asked for a pay raise. The survey revealed that men are 23 percent more likely to negotiate pay raises at all career stages, and when women do negotiate, they typically receive two percent less than men.

Several factors contribute to these statistics, including women’s perceptions of limited opportunities and training, the challenges of balancing work and family, and a lack of confidence, which affects almost a quarter of women compared to 13 percent of men.
