Slow Progress in Addressing Workplace Racism Revealed in Recent Survey

A significant study has quantified the disparities in job opportunities between individuals from black and ethnic minority backgrounds and the white majority. The research indicates that while the employment prospects for some BAME individuals have shown improvement since the 1970s, they continue to face significant barriers compared to their white counterparts.

Conducted by a research team from the University of Bristol, the University of Manchester, and the National Centre for Social Research, this study analysed national census data spanning from 1971 to 2011, encompassing a dataset of over 70,000 individuals in England and Wales. The study focused on eight distinct ethnic groups: white British, Irish, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, black Caribbean, black African, and Chinese.
