Pandemic Influence on Shared Parental Leave and Childcare Equality

Six years after the introduction of shared parental leave, the uptake remains at just 2%.

The COVID-19 pandemic initially seemed to promote greater gender equality, with fathers becoming more engaged in childcare and understanding the challenges faced by women.

However, whether this will lead to a lasting shift in fathers accessing parental leave or if a more substantial approach is needed remains to be seen.
