Randy Newman’s sharp commentary in his song “The Great Nations of Europe” illustrates the harm that can result from the introduction of pathogens to a society lacking immunity.

Evolutionary psychologists have long acknowledged that group members tend to take precautions to prevent diseases. Our ancestors displayed a natural suspicion when encountering unfamiliar tribes, a tendency that still exists within us today, especially evident when dealing with public health concerns like the current situation with the Coronavirus.
