Cultural Intelligence: Its Relevance and Significance Today

The COVID-19 crisis has underscored the importance of leaders in organizations possessing emotional intelligence and empathy, on par with their strategic capabilities.

Over the years, coaching experts have emphasized the value of enhancing our “emotional quotient” (EQ) in contrast to our IQ, and the significance of this became particularly evident last year. Inclusive leaders are now exploring another dimension – the significance of cultural intelligence.

Global Diversity Practice at the Cultural Intelligence Centre, is an organization that has devised a method for evaluating and enhancing cultural intelligence at both individual and organizational levels. Dr. Sandra Upton explains, “when we talk about intercultural competence we talk about awareness and sensitivity.” She explains that CQ represents the ability to function and interact effectively in culturally diverse situations.
