Antisemitism and Islamophobia At Work (2024) Report Summary

Following our ground-breaking Religion at Work (2023) report, which explored the experiences of employees of faith across six major world religions, this comprehensive study delves into unique experiences faced by employees of the Jewish and Muslim faiths since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza conflict on October 7th, 2023. 

Our brand new research comprised a survey of over 1000 Muslim and Jewish employees, supplemented by in-depth interviews with 10 individuals of each faith. The research was designed to look at the:

• Extent to which Jewish employees experience antisemitism in the workplace;
• Extent to which Muslim employees experience Islamophobia in the workplace;
• Impact of the Israel-Gaza conflict on them
• Actions that organisations can take to ensure people feel safe and included in workplaces

The report offers an insight into the impact on life in the workplace for Jewish and Muslim employees since October 7th 2023. With the anniversary of the current conflict outbreak just a week away, it’s important that organisations know how to support their employees in these difficult times. Our report concludes with 10 key recommendations for employers from its author, Professor Binna Kandola OBE.

Over 1000 Jewish and Muslim employees took part in our research.

Some of the key findings from the research were:

• 47% of Jewish employees and 36% of Muslim employees have experienced an increase in discrimination since October 7th 2023.
• 43% of Jewish employees and 29% of Muslim employees felt uncomfortable discussing their religious practices at work
• 74% of Muslim employees and 63% of Jewish employees feel supported at work
• 69% of Muslim employees and 80% of Jewish employees encounter microaggressions at work
