Behaviours can be categorized into two groups: those that fall under our conscious control and those that do not.
One perspective posits that conscious behaviours, which we find easier to recognize and manage, reflect a person’s true self, while unconscious behaviours are seen as inauthentic. Nevertheless, those we interact with often pick up on and identify our unconscious behaviours.
Over the years, there has been a significant transformation in public attitudes toward race, and surveys have documented this shift over the course of many decades. Presently, individuals in the majority group are far less likely to engage in overt hostile actions against minorities. When racist incidents do occur, they are more likely to be widely condemned rather than being tolerated as they may have been in the past.
